05 Piers Nash Transportation as a Service: Uber, Lyft and Autonomous vehicles. Jul Transportation as a Service I’ve blogged previously about how autonomous vehicles are likely to arrive faster than most people believe. And how the winners and losers in the race to autonomous vehicles will be determined by data, or more accurately the Data Strategy of the companies in the race. But how will autonomous vehicles change the world? To my surprise, from recent conversations it is clear that most of the smart, business and tech-savvy people I’ve broached the subject with see

21 Piers Nash Data is the Solution 2: Precision Medicine Jun Data is the Solution: Precision Medicine I recently left the University of Chicago after 13 years as cancer biology faculty and part of the management layer for the group that developed the National Cancer Institute Genomic Data Commons. I saw the opportunity to help advance data-driven precision medicine in a meaningful manner on the market side. The key being data. Lots and lots of data. There are many challenges, and I am under no illusion that there is an easy path in what may be a

21 Piers Nash Drug Interactions are Everywhere (and we aren't equipped to see them) Jun Detailed patient data is the feed stock for the immense power of A.I. (deep learning and various other machine learning systems) that will produce life-saving insights and entirely transform the practice of medicine in the next few years. There are many areas where this stands to make an impact and drive discovery. The interaction between therapies, diet and environmental factors is one such field that will benefit substantially from longitudinal treatment and outcome data at scale. This is part

13 Piers Nash Reflections from my time with the Genomic Data Commons Apr I have spent the past 13 years at The University of Chicago - most of that time as a faculty of Cancer Research. From December 2013 through January 2017 I spent my days (and a fair number of nights) working with the University of Chicago’s Center for Data Intensive Science. During that time, I had the unique privilege to be integrally involved in what I view as a truly transformational national effort to develop a purpose-built private object storage cloud for the Nations’ cancer genomic data.
